What is "Melanoma "?

Melanoma is the fastest- growing tumorous disease in the word and in the EU. Its emergence and progression can be remarkably fast. Melanoma's mortality rate is still high despite the fact that in case of an early-stage diagnose it can be treated successfully.

About the product

Merwis brings the future in Melanoma screening. A simple and convenient solution that helps to discover signs of potentially malign changes on the skin surface as early as possible.

Basic Items / 01

Naevus Cabin

The equipment creates a personalised naevus-map ( mole-map) by digitally scanning and photographing the patient's entire body in 3D. The map records exact numbers and locations of moles and highlights the potentially dangerous ones. 1 to 4 screenings per year is recommended.

Team members responsible for the area: Gábor Hetyey, Norbert Perness

Cloud based server

Unified visual data from 3D scans and the application are stored in a cloud-based server. This enables effective search for potentially degenerative or tumorous instances.

Unified visual data from the cabin and the application is being stored on a cloud-based server which can be used to find and treat suspicious or malicious symptoms.

    Naevus Cabin

During dermatological examinations the physician will receive objective supplementary information about the entire skin surface. In addition to comparability , it can also detect the rise and fall of nevi.

    App & Appliance

    App & Appliance

The dermatologist using digital dermatoscope, examines the patient to confirm or  to reject the suspicions raised by the cabin and clarify the patient's lessons that they should follow up during self- examinations.

Alongside information captured by the Cabin and Mobile app, dermatoscopy imagery will be also added to the database. This way the alarm system is supplied with coherent data.

First step of screening. Provides data for digitized risk profile. Provides information to the dermatologist about visibly suspicious moles. Motivates patients to use the mobile application.

Educated patients will understand that fate is in their own hands (and smartphones). That's how they'll become active participants of screening.

The system will collect, organise and analyse detached data. A very sensitive and refined system that uses machine-learning to improve accuracy using maps and own databases.

  • Why Merwis?

    Provides continuous monitoring

    Provides continuous monitoring

Merwis eliminates gaps between annual melanoma screenings. Weekly self- checks using Merwis will provide a quasi- equal amount of information as a visit to a specialist. Data is being stored in a unified system that can alert patient and doctor at the same time, immediately after discovering any changes in skin conditions.

Helps preventing development of malign skin conditions

Helps preventing development of malign skin conditions

The first step of prevention is patient education.Without this, there is no patient involvement in any prevention efforts. The person who fills risk profile questionnaire will understand his risk factors. In case of any dermatological change, they will prevent further degeneration rather than fighting for survival due to late detection.

Reduces the number of personal examinations

Reduces the number of personal examinations

It is impossible to move a dermatologist into every potential patient's house. But it is possible with a Virtual Dermatologist. A smartphone with the appropriate optical attachment, used regularly, can provide almost the same information about moles as a personal visit to a dermatologist.

    About the examination

    01

    Status survey and diagnostics

The optimal entry point to the system is the completion of the numerical risk profile questionnaire. This gives a comparable numeric value of melanoma risk. This, on its own, only fraction of the information needed. So it is vital to creating the 3D map using the Naevus Cabin, followed by a dermatological check of suspicious moles.

    02

    Self- Care

After leaving the dermatologist, the patient will surely know what risk group he/ she is in, how many moles and which should be followed by self- examination. it is understandable that the patient can be objective data provider by means of perception at the time of relevant changes in their own melanoma conditions= SAFETY.

    03

    Medical control

The annual ( or half- yearly) dermatologist examination can obtain a deeper and more detailed information from the combined results of the cabin data, dermatoscopy and mobile self- checks. This can be timelined, logically ordered in front of the dermatologist.
